About Peter Dipoli
Peter Dipoli winery
Peter Dipoli works 4.6 hectares and focuses on three grape varieties. The winery is based in Egna, in southern South Tyrol. The family bought its first 1.2 hectares in Cortaccia in 1987 and harvested the first Voglar in 1990 after planting Sauvignon Blanc. Dipoli grew up in a farming family from Bolzano, studied at the agricultural institute in San Michele and gained practical experience on his parents' fruit farm. He founded Fine Wines in 1994. At first, the grapes were pressed in a friend's cellar; Dipoli opened his own winery in 1998.
Wine shaped by site and vintage
Dipoli's approach gives particular weight to soil, habitat and vintage. His philosophy is that wine cannot be fully planned or placed in a fixed category because each growing season creates different conditions. The fruit-led Voglar therefore varies from one vintage to the next. Decisions around Fihl and Iugum can also change; Iugum comes from a further Dipoli vineyard in Margreid. Vineyard sites are selected according to the needs of each variety, resulting in wines with an individual style rather than one led by short-term fashion.
